A Year of Wedding Photography in Indianapolis and Beyond

2016 Wedding Photography in Review

Wow, what a year! Who’s with me in disbelief that we just welcomed in 2017…2017!

2016 was a wonderful year! On the personal side, we welcomed our baby boy in March, making two under three in our house…crazy times…but oh so great. We are blessed.

I took a month maternity leave and then jumped head first into our wedding season. It was a non-stop awesome ride of weddings. It was such an incredible mix of wedding styles. We had rustic barn weddings, luxurious formal weddings, large gatherings of family and friends, intimate wedding ceremonies with only closest friends and family, but one thing was consistent through them all: they were all filled with beauty, love, and the specialness that only a wedding day can bring.

At the end of each year I like to take a look back at the weddings we experienced and some of the highlights of each one. So, here are a few favorites.

We begin each wedding day by joining the bride and groom in their respective getting ready process. We love documenting this portion of the wedding day as it allows us to tell the complete wedding day story from beginning to end. We photograph the bride finishing her hair and makeup, the groom with his buddies, each getting dress, and of course, the details.

I’m a sucker for a good shoe shot. We had so many gorgeous shoes this year. Wow… stylish flats, to stilettos with amazing bling. We even had a pair of hiking boots!

The time that the bride spends getting ready for her wedding day is a special time. I love the time she spends hanging out with her closest friends, the perfect placement of each curl, the precise application of the makeup, and finally, the moment that she steps into her wedding dress. That moment she has been waiting for brings everything together.

Isn’t Lauren so glam in her custom bridal robe as she puts on her jewelry before heading over to the Indianapolis Scottish Rite Cathedral for her wedding day?

If I had to pick a favorite wedding trend, I would have to say mismatched bridesmaid dresses. I love that bridesmaids don’t have to all fit into the same dress that they will probably never wear again. Yay for “non-bridesmaidsy” dresses….I think I just made that word up.

We loved these bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses on their glam gold hangers from a Joe and Mandy’s beautiful wedding at the Mavris Arts and Event Center.

Even though the groom doesn’t have as much to do to get ready for the wedding day, it doesn’t make the time that he spends getting ready and hanging with is buddies any less special. As he dresses for his big day, we love to capture every detail from his tie to his cufflinks.

We had the opportunity to photograph weddings at so many beautiful venues this year, both in Indianapolis and some Destinations as well. They were all amazing, but here are a couple of shots from St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis, and from the Mustard Seed Gardens in Noblesville.

…and the wedding rings…wow. so much gorgeousness!

I really think my absolute favorite part of the day is the moment a bride sees her daddy for the first time in her dress on her wedding day. It is always such a sweet and special moment. Now that we have a daughter and I see the bond that is forming between her and Austin, it just makes it that much more special.

We also love, love, love when couples take advantage of the opportunity to do a first look on their wedding day, where they see each other before the craziness of the day begins. Every couple who has chosen to do a first look is so glad that they did.

We love these first looks from an Indiana University Wedding, a Southern Indiana Catholic Wedding, a wedding from The Barn in Zionsville, and a first look from a wedding at the Bridgewater Club in Carmel, Indiana.

When a couple does a first look, we get the opportunity to take our time and make some beautiful wedding pictures for them.

Oh, the flowers. We saw so many beautiful bouquets this year. We worked with some talented florists who did some gorgeous work to make the weddings they decorated so beautiful!

We are so honored that couples really bring us into their inner circle of friends as we photograph their bridal party. We are there through it all on one of the most special days of their lives, and we don’t take that lightly.

Haha…we like to have a little fun as well.

Oh, our beautiful brides! Everyone is beautiful and we love the unique styles that we see each week. That’s one of the reasons I love being a wedding photographer! Every wedding is different!

I love this industrial looking underpass right outside the Mavris Arts and Events Center. It’s the perfect complement to the venue’s industrial chic style.

We were so glad to get to travel a bit this year. We took a quick trip back to our old stomping ground in Atlanta, and then to the beautiful Siesta Key, Florida at the Sunset Beach Resort. It no wonder where the resort got it’s name. That sunset is amazing!

We’ve had so many wonderful wedding couples this year. Here are a few of our favorite couple pictures.

Whether it was an intimate wedding at the historic Windswept farmhouse in Danville, or a glamorous wedding downtown at D’Amore at the top of the Chase Tower or the Omni Severin, we love them all!

Aren’t the historic trains at the Crowne Plaza Union Station awesome? We also love Indiana University weddings in Bloomington. Even though we are Purdue Boilermakers, we appreciate the beauty of IU’s campus and love to shoot weddings there.

Check out those twinkling lights high above Indianapolis at the Skyline Club at the top of the One America Tower! Lauren and Jarret brought an antique Cadillac that we loved using for their pictures, and Monument Circle in the middle of Indianapolis is such a classic location for bride and groom pictures. I was so excited when the light was just right when we made it to the Circle at the perfect moment for the most amazing light for Brent and Caroline.

Even though it was raining, we loved the twinkly lights at Nick and Kaitlyn’s Barn at Zionsville wedding. We also had a few weddings where the Indy Trolley transported the wedding party in style. What a fun way to get around Indianapolis!

How beautiful is the Cathedral at St. Mary’s of the Woods? It’s like a hidden wonder in the middle of rural Indiana! I felt like I was back in Europe! We also love the Indianapolis Canal and White River State Park for Wedding Pictures. It’s such a great spot in the middle of the city.

Of course, a wedding wouldn’t be a wedding without the ceremony! There were so many beautiful venues from grand cathedrals to backyard ceremonies, they are all special in their own way. We love the moment the bride is given away. The gleeful look of a groom marrying his best friend and the excitement on a couple’s face as they are pronounced husband and wife.

The details…we love us some details! Scrumptious desserts, vintage finds, classic venues, quirky socks, and beautifully wrapped gifts, they all come together to give quite personality to the wedding day.

Reception time is party time! Dancing, friends, family, and merriment! So much celebration and so fun!

When the music fades and the dancing ends, it’s time to send the bride and groom off with a grand farewell. Sparkler exits and dramatic night shots are the perfect end to a perfect wedding day.
